Menopause Opportunity: What if we changed our perspective?
Are you tired of menopause being treated as a disability, or a dreaded decline? This is the message we get from modern culture, and yet many post-menopausal women are having the best time of their lives. What’s their secret?
So much of it depends on perspective; what we focus on, and what we believe is possible, is most likely what we will get! If we assume we are declining, and focus on that, we’ll be met with lots of disappointment and diminishing opportunities.
But if we assume we are changing, and look for what is available for us now, all sorts of new possibilities can open up.
I find the rhythms of nature to be such a beautiful guide for our lives, and this applies to menopause as well. When we see our lives in terms of phases, or seasons, we know the value of each one. Nothing is “good,” or “bad.” The phases work together and balance each other, as a complete cycle.
Menopause is the End of a Cycle
Menopause is the end of a cycle in our lives; the end of our reproductive years. Menopause is at the end of that cycle, like the Autumn and Wintertime are at the end of a seasonal cycle.
When you think of Autumn, you know it is a season of completion. A time to review, reflect and cast out what is no longer working. The leaves fall. It seems like the end. But it is not forever! Winter follows, with a season of quiet, and then – a new year is born!
This is a time of trust, because we cannot necessarily see what will be next! But the value of this phase is that when our attention turns inward, toward ourselves, we get to: catch up with ourselves, re-evaluate our priorities, deeply honor ourselves for all we have been through – and rest. Just rest.
Menopause is a massive re-set, not only for our bodies but our priorities and perspectives as well. There is so much opportunity here, when we give ourselves what we need, in terms of time and understanding!
Menopause Takes Time
Menopause takes time, but it’s a time to listen and learn about yourself. To attend to yourself. To discover what is seeking to emerge as you gradually ease out of one phase of life and into another.
What do you feel you’ve been missing? What dreams have you put on hold? What is your body telling you it needs? What about your mind and heart? Where do they wish to spend more time? What do you KNOW, now?
Like the Autumn trees, a part of you is withdrawing into your roots during this phase. It’s time to nourish yourself, and catch up with parts of yourself that may be waiting to be discovered! The best years of your life may be yet to come.
