Would you like to give your daughter something special to honor her first menstruation?
Some girls may not want a lot of attention, but would appreciate something being done in their honor. Here are some ideas for gifts with a special theme:
Make something of clay. You could make a small piece from red clay to give your girl when she gets her first period. This could be a symbol of power, beauty, or some special impression that comes to mind from her life or your own. (Craft stores carry small packets of colored clay that can be molded and then baked in the oven.)
Make her a card from colorful paper. Write your wishes in the card, or some memories from your own girlhood. You can even make a pop-up card with a few colorful scraps, scotch tape and a glue stick!
Give her something red: a bracelet or earrings, a scarf, small stone, or some flowers.
Give her something to use each month only during her period, as a small personal ritual.
The things mentioned above could be used in this way, and kept in a nice box the rest of the month. Other gifts could be a journal, a mug, or a small special pillow.
Perhaps there is a keepsake family object that could now be gifted to her.
You could also look for something with the moon on it, as a reminder of women’s connection to the moon and its rhythms.
If you have chosen something special for her, include a card telling the story of how you selected this for her, and why.
Have fun, and remember that even a few simple words or gifts can have lasting meaning for her!
